About the School
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is a private Catholic research university on España Boulevard in Manila. Founded in 1611 by Bishop Miguel de Benavides, it is recognized as the oldest existing university in Asia.
UST is operated by the Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers. It also holds Pontifical status, making it one of the notable Catholic universities in Asia.

UST was founded as Colegio de Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario by Bishop Miguel de Benavides. It became one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the Philippines.

The institution was renamed Colegio de Santo Tomas in honor of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
1645
UST was elevated to university status by Papal Bull, making it the oldest university in Asia operating continuously.
1927
The university moved from Intramuros to its present campus on España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila.
1947
