1912

Established in Zamboanga City during the American colonial period as a teacher training institution for Western Mindanao.

1955

The institution was elevated and renamed, broadening its mandate beyond teacher education to include arts, sciences, and commerce.

1978

Originally merged as WMSU; the Zamboanga City campus later became the base of the separate University of Zamboanga.

1994

RA 7727 established UZ as a separate state university focused on the distinct multicultural needs of Zamboanga City.

2013

During the Zamboanga City siege, UZ played a role in supporting students and contributing to post-conflict community recovery efforts.
