PnC was inaugurated on July 31, 2003, with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo personally attending the inauguration on June 19, 2003, the 107th birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal. The university was modeled after Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), with PLM’s then-president Dr. Benjamin Tayabas providing direct mentorship during its establishment.

History & Background

1993-2003

Before PnC was established, Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) operated a satellite campus at Cabuyao National High School through a memorandum of agreement between LSPU and the Cabuyao municipal government.

2002

Strong protests against LSPC leadership from faculty, staff, and students led by Charlemagne G. Laviña anticipated the closure of the LSPU-Cabuyao satellite. Faculty members began assisting the mayor’s office to plan an independent local university modeled after PLM.

2003

On April 15, 2003, the Sangguniang Bayan enacted Municipal Ordinance No. 2003-059. Mayor Proceso D. Aguillo approved it the following day. The university was inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on June 19, 2003, and officially began operations on July 31, 2003.

2023

Pamantasan ng Cabuyao adopted the parallel branding “University of Cabuyao” (UC) to broaden its institutional identity while retaining the original Filipino name.

2024

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program was accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Philippines (PICAB), validating the quality of PnC’s computing programs.

Today

PnC continues as Cabuyao’s flagship local university under President Dr. Charlemagne G. Laviña, serving thousands of students from Cabuyao and surrounding Laguna communities.
